Welcome to the Department of Colour Science

The Department of Colour Science, founded in 1878, is an international centre of excellence in chemistry, physics and various technologies associated with colorants, polymers, colour and imaging. It is unique in the UK.

The department hosts leading scientists specialised in polymer chemistry, polymer materials science, chemistry of colorants, textile coloration, colour measurement, imaging science, organic printed electronics and formulation and delivery of functional complex fluids. The department prides itself in the continuing provision of high-quality teaching delivered by leading experts in their respective fields of science.

Following merger in September 2008, Colour Science is now part of the School of Chemistry. Consequently, students now enjoy a greater choice of degree programmes.
